This is one of the chapters after I had “completed” the book. It felt like this piece was needed as a complimentary piece to help tie everything together to create better flow and a more complete story.
This chapter introduces the two main antagonists. The evildoers that spark the entire story emotion at a later date.
In creating these characters, I knew I wanted two people. Maybe it was because the first movie I ever saw as a child was 101 Dalmatians. Being I originally set out to process some of my childhood trauma, there was probably something subconscious there.
The two henchmen, Horace and Jasper, worked for the evil Cruella Deville. One of the henchmen was more sinister, and one was more sympathetic. In creating the darker of the two henchmen, I wanted a character that was immediately dislikeable. I created a speech pattern that was annoying and would grate on the reader. Truth be told, I did too good a job with the initial writing. I had to go back and clean some of it out!
This was a chapter not written for complexity within the story, but rather to just make a simple connection. These two characters become the bridge to the later events in the story.
In writing this after the rest of the story, it created the need for a lot of cleanup with the rest of the editing. I had to fix some chronological issues, as well as correct later introductions and character descriptions. My advice to any person who writes a novel : Don’t write a book this way. That said, this was my first novel, and it was a learning curve. Trial and error; Make mistakes and learn.
